			<![CDATA[
If you haven't heard of it, the World naked bike ride is an international public protest against the use of cars, and more generally our dependence on oil. Its purpose is to draw attention to oil dependency and the negative social and environmental impacts of a car dominated culture . To put it simply we are killing the planet, and notably ourselves, by encouraging an extremely polluting system based on consumerism, let alone the numerous road accidents of which bike riders and pedestrians are often victims. So please get the message: forget your car and ride a bike! http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/ http://nakedwiki.org/

Why is the Golden Gate bridge painted International Orange? The Golden Gate bridge has always been painted orange vermilion, deemed "International Orange." Rejecting carbon black and steel gray, Consulting Architect Irving Morrow selected the distinctive orange color because it blends well with the span's natural setting as it is a warm color consistent with the warm colors of the land masses in the setting as distinct from the cool colors of the sky and sea. It also provides enhanced visibility for passing ships. If the U.S. Navy had its way, the bridge might have been painted black and yellow stripes to assure even greater visibility for passing ships! Many people ask how to obtain International Orange paint. Its easy. Your paint store can mix it with the following information: The PMS code is 173 or the CMYK colors are Cyan 0%, Magenta 69%, Yellow 100% and Black 6% Information thanks to goldengatebridge.org

Sea Lions in San Francisco... Here's the (unusual) story: These California sea lions "hauled out" on PIER 39's K-Dock shortly after the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. The boisterous barking pinnipeds started arriving in droves, taking over the docks in January 1990. At first they numbered from 10-50, but due to a plentiful herring supply, the available dock space and protective environment, the population grew to more than 300 within a couple of months. Each winter season the sea lion population now grows as high as 900. Annually, the sea lions tend to migrate to the Channel Islands, 350 miles to the south, during the summer months. But now a small group chooses to stay at PIER 39 throughout the year.
